Fixing Fast Blinking Lexus Flasher

1/28/2006

I had some success fixing the fast blinking turn signal on my 1997 Lexus ES300 using the instructions I found here:

Below are the instructions from the above web site and some pictures I took of the process.

There is one Philips head screw (small) holding the turn signal lens housing onto the headlight itself. Remove the screw, and apply a frontward force to the turn signal lens (push it towards the front of the car) and it will pop out, and you can access the bulb socket from there. - To replace - reverse the directions.

When you pop open the hood and look at the area up front, there is a plastic shroud. They are held in by fasteners that release by getting a flathead screwdriver and prying the top up slightly....you will then be able to remove the fastener. You will then be able to see the Philips head screw under this plastic shroud.

After that, as 98oyster stated, you move the assembly towards the front. I found it very hard but the trick I used was to get a small plastic tie wrap type fastener and use that to slowly leverage and pull the assembly forward and then POP! It should come out.

The splash guard Snaps are 2-pieces. To undo, pry up just the top part with a flat blade screw driver the amount shown to release it, then remove the whole thing.

Next, undo the Philips head screw shown above and slide the whole lamp lens forward. There is a plastic latch that needs to release, then the whole thing pops out. You may be able to reach in with a flat stick and help release the latch easier, however it will release by just jiggling it a bit. The trick is knowing where the latch is. See below.

Plastic latch on lens assembly.

Red: The other half of the plastic latch that hold the lens assembly.

Yellow: The connector. Clean the contacts inside. Bend the contacts on the lamp socket slightly toward the mating connector’s leaf springs.

Green: The bulb socket. Take out the bulb and clean the contacts.

Check the two bulb filaments and replace the bulb if either is burned out.
